The Japanese whisky industry has achieved remarkable strides in promoting its own offerings, often featuring a substantial proportion of Scotch Malt whisky to enhance the flavor profile. Significant investments have been directed towards the Japanese whisky sector, resulting in prominent brands like Suntory and Nikka garnering immense popularity within their home market. However, Australia presents a unique challenge due to the considerably higher pricing of Japanese whiskies compared to their authentic counterparts. This pricing disparity has led to minimal sales of Japanese whisky in Australia, except for a solitary instance where a Japanese tourist made a purchase. The current landscape is evolving, and our latest shipment brings forth a selection of these globally acclaimed expressions, making them more accessible than before.
Beyond the realm of Single Malts, Suntory also crafts a premium range of blended whiskies under the 'Hibiki' label, denoting 'harmony.' Interestingly, the Hibiki 17 year old expression boasts an exceptional concentration of Single Malt for a blend, with estimates suggesting upwards of 50% according to one of the company's expert blenders. A combination of thirty distinct malts is harnessed from Suntory's three distinct distilleries, many of which have surpassed the 17-year age mark, contributing to the exceptional complexity of this blend.
