Established in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher, The Macallan distillery has evolved under the ownership of the Edrington Group. Embracing its foundational principles, The Macallan places great emphasis on its Six Pillars, encompassing distinctive traits such as its uniquely diminutive stills, a meticulous selection of new make spirit, and an exceptional approach to cask management. Renowned worldwide, The Macallan's whiskies are consistently sought after by collectors, often setting remarkable records at auctions globally.
While The Macallan is generally not associated with smoky whisky, there are occasional exceptions to this norm. Crafted from a blend of fewer than 100 casks, this expression diverges from the typical profile, offering a captivating combination of rich peat smoke and sherry influences. Created exclusively for the Travel Retail market, it was introduced in September 2015. This Macallan variant is characterized as "dark, smoky, and unexpected," presenting a distinctive departure from the brand's conventional offerings. The whisky is matured in 1st Fill Sherry Casks, bears no age statement, and is bottled at an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 48%.
