Established in 1896, the Tamdhu Distillery was founded by a consortium of blenders seeking to venture into their own whisky production. Nestled in Knockando, Banffshire, Scotland, its name originates from Gaelic, signifying "little dark hill." Although it endured a closure from 1927 to 1947, the distillery boasts an impressive heritage. With 3 wash stills and 3 spirits stills, it boasts a production capacity of about 4 million liters of pure alcohol per annum, making it a substantial operation. Ian MacLeod Distillers currently owns and operates the distillery, primarily utilizing it for the creation of blended whiskies like Famous Grouse, J & B, and Cutty Sark. Notably, the majority of its single malt undergoes maturation in European oak or American oak ex-sherry casks.

A recent release, this limited edition Tamdhu pays homage to the distinctive cask maturation process undertaken at the distillery. It prominently features American oak ex-sherry casks sourced from North American oak forests. These casks journey to Spain's 'sherry triangle,' where they undergo meticulous craftsmanship for six years. Basking in the Mediterranean sun, the casks air dry before being assembled and toasted by seasoned coopers. Thereafter, they're seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. These casks, enriched with the essence of Oloroso Sherry, journey to Tamdhu distillery, where they're filled with new make spirit. Over time, the spirit melds with the Oloroso Sherry oak, resulting in a whisky teeming with luscious fruitiness, velvety melted chocolate, and warming oak nuances. Bottled at 48% ABV, this limited edition release is exclusively available at select whisky retailers across six countries worldwide. With a subtle peat smoke level of 0.25ppm, it offers a captivating sensory experience.
